Winter Skin Care - An Overview
Winter is here and the frost is not only nipping at your nose but the whole face. Fortunately, with a facial skin care routine that meets your exact skin care needs you can be on your way to healthy, radiant skin tone.
The winter holidays are when you need to look your best and your skin is going to require a tiny bit of extra attention. You want to learn how the seasons affect your skin and what you need to do about your skin care routine so you’ll have healthy and good looking skin and keep healthy even in the wintertime.
Start with a good soap-free cleanser that is non-drying and will protect your skin from moisture loss during cleansing. What skin needs is hydration and using anything like soap can be harsh on the skin. If your skin is dry, then go for a formula with natural oils to keep skin protective barrier intact.
During winters it is essential to keep your skin supple and moist. So you must drink lot of water. As fruits and vegetables contain lot of water and vitamins that are good for skin, you need to eat them in plenty as well.
Buy products that contain essential oils versus fragrance oils which contain a mix of unknown chemicals that encourage your skin to become dehydrated.
If your moisturizer doesn’t contain sunscreen, apply a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 at minimum. I normally recommend SPF30 or higher but since you are less likely to spend an extended amount of time out doors, SPF15 is sufficient.
Remember your lips are also part of the skin on your face so use a soothing lip balm or moisturizing lipstick, preferably with a sunscreen.
Keep your face and skin covered. Sure, it’s hectic getting ready for events putting on layers of clothing, but in the end, it saves your skin from being severely damaged. This is especially important if you take part in outdoor activities, such as skiing, ice skating, or hockey.
The skin on your hands is thinner than on other areas of your body. Hands needs extra protection and winter skin care. Make sure that after washing your hands you dry them and use a good hand cream. Wearing gloves outdoors will also protect them and keep your skin soft.
It is very difficult to find moisturizing skin care formulas that offer you those types of compounds however. Most of the cosmetics industry does not seem to want to invest the money into their products to procure the necessary ingredients in order for their formulas to be effective.
Increase your intake of essential fatty acids (EFAs). These play an essential role in the health of your skin, hair, and nails by helping your body form healthy cell membranes that can effectively hold water inside the cells. The more water that’s held in your cells, the better hydrated your skin is.
Drink Less Coffee, colas, tea and alcohol: In winter, drinking coffee and alcohol make your body loose water more easily and your skin to become dry and chapped. Avoid it, if possible.
Follow these simple tips and keep your skin and hair happy through the winter.
