Treating Acne With Toothpaste - Does Toothpaste Get Rid of Pimples?
Many people think that applying toothpaste on pimples as an effective home remedy for pimples, does it really work? It really depends on the chemicals in the tooth paste. Your skin can have a really bad reaction or it could work. And not all acne medications work the same way for everybody. The best acne medications for some people may not work at all for others. This is just the way it is, that’s not restricted to acne medications.
Some toothpastes contain ingredients which can help get rid of pimples, but can actually irritate or burn the skin and sometimes provoke skin allergies. Since there are so many other solutions out there, this should be a last resort.
No scientific research has been done that can determine that toothpaste is a cure for acne. And no research has been done to prove it can’t.
The reason to use toothpaste as as acne treatment is probably due to the fact that many types of toothpaste contains triclosan. Triclosan effectively kills bacteria. Triclosan is an anti-bacterial ingredient that can be found in so many personal care products like toothpaste, soap, deodorant, and acne treatments.
Many toothpastes also contain menthol, alcohol, flouride and peroxide which can dry out the skin and actually have an irritating effect on the pimple. The success people see when they say this method works is that the pimple has dried out. For some that is a good thing. For others, having a big flaky patch of red skin, albeit pimple free, is not success.
For these cases there are many other methods of removing acne. There are so many products designed specifically to reduce a pimple and not burn the skin. If toothpaste were designed for this, the companies would market them as so. They would make millions more. But toothpaste companies themselves know that this is an awful idea and nowhere to do you see “Spot Treatment” as a recommended usage.
More importantly, keep your face clean and grease-free, and use water based moisturizers for your skin care to help avoid the development of pimples in the first place.
